Central mediation on rents - and decision on parking VAT

Skebo has aimed to reach a local agreement with the Tenants' Association regarding the 2026 rent adjustment well before April.
After several constructive meetings, the parties have jointly decided to proceed to central mediation via the Housing Market Committee, considering Skellefteå's special market situation and the economic conditions in the negotiation.

- We understand that many tenants wish for clear information on new rent levels, and we have continued hopes of reaching an agreement within a reasonable time, says Helena Markgren, CEO of Skebo.
In parallel, Skebo has made a decision on another issue affecting several tenants. The Tax Agency has decided to introduce a 25% VAT on parking spaces from October 1, 2026. The Tax Agency's decision has been questioned from several perspectives, but is currently set to be implemented. However, Skebo has chosen not to pass on the cost to the tenants, but instead absorb the parking VAT within the company.

The omission of the parking VAT entails a significant decrease in revenue for Skebo.
- We know that many tenants are concerned about increased costs right now, where the parking VAT could have been another uncertainty. That's why we have chosen to absorb the parking VAT within the company, even though it represents a significant cost for us. At the same time, we need to ensure long-term sustainable conditions for managing and developing our properties, especially in a situation where tax increases already exceed our demand, says Helena Markgren.

The ongoing negotiation for the 2026 rent adjustment is now being handled within the central mediation. Once a final outcome is reached, Skebo will inform the tenants.
